Categories
Tournaments are held in ballroom and Latin, separately for women*, men*, and queer couples.
Women* and men* tournaments
All women* and men* tournaments are open to all trans*, inter*, and non-binary individuals, but they must be assigned to either the women* or men* category according to the rules during a tournament. We acknowledge that the dance category chosen by trans*, inter*, and non-binary participants does not necessarily reflect their gender identity, but rather the competition they prefer to participate in.
The pink or purple ribbon of the Spree is awarded to the winners of the combined ranking, which is calculated from the results of the open international tournament for women* and men* ballroom and Latin dance tournaments.
Note: There is no EEDA Grand Slam tournament series this year.
Queer tournaments
We also host the Queer tournaments. These are aimed at all non-DTV couples* who have not felt very welcome in the DVET tournaments so far, for example:
- because
they will not be assigned to any role as non-binary individuals, - because
a woman leads a man, - because
a couple with inter*/trans* people does not express a typical women*/men* couple, - etc.
*Non-DTV couples are couples that do not meet the original DTV definition „cis-woman follows/cis-man leads“ (regardless of whether they have already danced a DTV tournament or not). We acknowledge that non-binary individuals can now participate in the original operation at DTV, as well as equality couples in the pilot phase in 2026/2027. These couples are not excluded from the Queer tournaments.
Queer couples can also participate in the parallel tournaments for women* and men* couples, but we would be happy if they danced in at least partially role changes.
Age restrictions
All tournament participants must be at least 16 years old. No further age restrictions, but….
…for the first time at the 2026 Berlin Open: Extra points for seniors
We decided to evaluate and honor senior couples in the „BO SEN II“ age class for the first time at this year’s Berlin Open.
The background is that, of course, none of us gets older, but the new couples are getting younger and younger;-) However, we didn’t want to „squeeze in“ any more tournaments into the schedule and decided on this solution.
Who can participate?
„BO SEN II“ means that the younger dancer in the couple is at least 55 years old and both together are at least 120 years old (the age on the day of the tournament applies). Those who want to be included in the ranking must prove their age at check-in. Please let us know when you register. There is currently a discussion at EEDA about a SEN II definition, but it has not yet been concluded. That’s why we call the definition we prefer for this tournament: „BO SEN II“.
How does the rating work?
All participating couples in the women* or men* tournaments, who are „qualified“ by age, will be ranked in their category (e.g. women* Latin) (similar to the combined score). All couples will be honored.
How will you be honored?
You will be honored together with the highest classes of a category. The best BO SEN II couples receive the bordeaux-colored or bronze ribbon of the Spree. All SEN II couples of a category dance a honorary dance of their own choice together – e.g. Paso doble or Viennese Waltz.
Tournament rules
The tournament rules of the DVET apply. The women* and men* tournaments will be danced including qualifying rounds for class placement – the queer tournaments without qualifying rounds in one class.

Privacy
The information provided during registration is used to prepare and organize the tournament. A starting list with names and clubs, as well as results, will be published. If you do not want your name to appear on the lists, please indicate this in the appropriate field when registering. Please note our data protection information (in German).
Start fee:
- Single
or multiple entry (for Ballroom & Latin): €25 per person, reduced €15 for students,
seniors, and recipients of Bürgergeld (with proof) - The
entry fee is to be paid on site. - The
entry fee for the whole day is included in the starting fee.
Other prices:
Drinks and delicious food can be purchased on site during the tournament and in the evening.
Overnight
We offer affordable overnight accommodations at our club’s „hostel.“ You can initiate registration through the registration form, but we need more information via email.
Outreach
With outreach, we support tournament participants from Eastern European countries who are attending a tournament in Berlin for the first time (Berlin Open, German Open, or EC 2017). The funding for their participation in the Berlin Open is 50 EUR per person upon application, and the entry fee is waived. Outreach pairs are hosted internally by the club.
Traditional brunch after the tournament:
We actually brunch after the tournament in the summer sun on the clubhouse patio. Since we’re hosting the tournament in April this year, we expect April weather rather than summer sun, and we’d like to have breakfast together at the Hasenheide restaurant on Sunday. There is good breakfast (not brunch) at moderate prices. A large table is reserved for us. Please register using the registration form. This will make our planning easier and ensure enough places. However, a spontaneous appearance is also possible.
